Clarice J. Brewer

03-16-1942 - 07-11-2019

“I Continued on By the Help of the Lord”
Clarice J. Brewer began her journey when she was born into the union of Ralph C. Miller and Florine J. Beattie on March 16, 1942.  The oldest of six children. Her parents, two brothers Donald Lee Miller and Alfred Hill preceded her in death.
She was educated in St Joseph’s Public Education System in Missouri attending Bartlett School and upon relocating to Des Moines, Iowa she completed high school graduating from Tech High School in 1957.  Upon graduation from high school she found employment in the health industry as a nursing assistant at the Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.  It was during this time she met and married Vincent Brewer and became the loving mother of two daughters; Toni V. Brewer (who preceded her in in death) and Kellie R. Brewer.
As part of her life’s journey she relocated to New York City with her husband and children.  She continued her professional development by becoming certified in Key Punch.  Shortly after certification she obtained employment as a key puncher and served as a supervisor with the railroad currently known as Metro North Railroad Company, where she worked for 41 years until her retirement in 2009.
Spring is the time of the year that brings renewal and growth. A time of the year that exemplified Clarice’s spirit and love for gardening, restoring antiques, sewing and attending flea markets and being creative which was always a
welcome breath of fresh air.  As an avid gardener she loved the colorful imagery of flowers and plants and being able to harvest seeds and plantings and pass them on to others for their own gardens.  She enjoyed collecting antiques and learning about the history of the item and restoring it to its natural beauty. Clarice loved to sew as well and appreciated the fact that you could save money by making your own clothes. Additionally, she expended time and energy in learning the art of making crafts. All these activities nurtured her love and appreciation of beauty and allowed her to pursue her interests. She loved visiting her family in the Midwest and traveling both nationally and internationally.
On July 11, 2019 Clarice embarked on her final and greatest journey. She is survived by her loving daughter, Kellie R. Brewer, grandson, Branden V. Brewer of New York City, three adopted sons, Richard Taylor, Eddie Harris of New York City and Leonard E. Bell Jr. of St. Louis, Missouri.  Sisters Phyllis Hill, Teresa Hill and Valerie (Jimmy) Hill-Allen and brother Larry Hill (Pickle), two sisters in laws and a host of nieces, nephews extended family and friends.
