In accordance with the divine will of our heavenly father our beloved, Sis. Barbara Elizabeth Moragne-Thompson departed this life on March 25th, 2020. Barbara was born on March 16, 1950 in the Bronx, New York to Mr. John H. Perkins Sr. and the late Catherine Perkins. Barbara received her formal education through the New York City Public School System where she attended and graduated from P.S. 76 Elementary School, Olinville Richard R. Green Junior High, and Jane Addams High School for nursing.
Barbara was loved dearly by so many people. Barbara worked at the Veterans Hospital in the Bronx. Barbara mastered her skills for many years working at K&R Jewelry Company and then later went on to work in the healthcare system where she retired from. While retired Barbara loved to stay active, she worked part-time as a grandparent at P.S. 59, where the students and staff called her “Grandma” and loved her dearly. Barbara was a phenomenal woman and always had a great smile. She had a heart of gold when it came to giving rather than receiving. She always gave great advice and was a positive soul. She was a down to earth person, didn’t take any mess and was the backbone (Big Mama) of her family.
She later met and married the love of her life Mr. Chet Thompson who she grew up knowing for over fifty-five years and shared nine beautiful years of marriage.
Barbara joined and attended The New Tabernacle Baptist Church in Bronx, NY under the late Rev. James B. Staggers for many years and now present pastor Rev. Hiram Ratliff, where she served faithfully as the President of the Gospel Chorus which later became the Voices of New Tabernacle and served presently as the active treasurer, and she also served as the current magnificent President of the Nurses Unit for fifteen years. Barbara served and was involved in several religious organizations for her District Association and State Convention. For over fifteen years, she served faithfully, was very active and an extremely supportive member in the Nurses Auxiliary of the United Missionary Baptist Association (NAUMBA). In addition, from 2017-2019 she served as a very capable and responsible Financial Secretary in the Nurses Auxiliary, under the leadership of President Tyra J. Williams. Her support to the Empire Baptist Missionary Convention (EBMC) Ushers and Nurses Auxiliary was a part of her life for many years.
