Biography: Linnette Middleton was born June 23, 1929 in Charleston, South Carolina to James and Marie Childers.  She received her formal education at Immaculate Conception (ICS) in Charleston. She was baptized at a young age at 4th Baptist Church in Charleston, SC.

Linnette was united in marriage to John H. Middleton for 33 years until he departed this life on November 3, 1981; out of this union, she had 8 children.  In her early years, Linnette held various jobs.  She worked at Campbell Soup Company and was also a dietician at Joint Disease Hospital in NYC before deciding to become a full-time home maker.

Linnette was a kind hearted person, who would do anything to help someone.  She was very smart and also talented.  She tap danced and played the piano as a child and never gave up her love for it.  She would dance with her daughter Marcella until she couldn’t anymore.  Linnette loved to read and collected many books and papers.  She was an awesome cook and everyone especially loved her Macaroni and cheese. However, her main passion was her love for Christ, her church and gospel music. Everyday she would play and sing her gospel songs.  She was an active member of Second St. John Baptist Church for over 40 years.  She enjoyed being a missionary, an usher, and singing in the choir.  She loved taking her grandchildren to church and having them participate in the Easter recital.

Linnette departed this life on June 19, 2021 at St. Cabrini Nursing Home in Dobbs Ferry.  She leaves to cherish her memory; her brother Leonard Childers, her children Malvern Middleton (Doris), Chevalette Lawhorne (John, deceased), Marcella Clark (Elliot), Kevin Middleton (Tylone), Karen Hayes (James) 2 nieces and 2 nephews.  She also leaves 18 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren, and a host of family and friends.  What a legacy to carry on her love and traditions.

She was preceded in death by her father, mother, 2 brothers and a sister.  Also preceded in death was her husband John Middleton, son Anthony Middleton and 2 daughters Annette Middleton and Cheryl Hasell.
