Biography: Life is beautiful. Life is joyful, happiness, sadness. Life is hard, life is daunting, life is a struggle. But then there was our sweet Blanche who pushed through with resilience.
The Lord said, “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most high, shall abide under the shadow of the almighty.”—Psalm 91: 1
Blanche Pope entered into eternal rest on August 6, 2021. Blanche was the ninth child born to Ernestine Dunston and Alonzo Pope on May 28, 1961 in New York City. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Blanche was placed in foster care at age two in the loving home of Marion and Canzella Johnson of Queens, New York. Blanche’s education took place at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic School and the New York City Public School System.

Blanche was an avid reader and shared career dreams with her big brother Alvin of her desire to study oceanography. She was joyful and fun and would make everybody laugh in a quick moment. Blanche followed Mama Johnson in the kitchen to learn all she could about cooking. Her favorite dish to cook was her famous Macaroni and Cheese. She loved to dance as well as cook.
Blanche had her first Holy Communion and her Confirmation at St. Theresa Avila of South Ozone Park, Queens. Blanche lived life to the fullest. No tears, only smiles and laughter. Just know that all is well with my soul. I have been received by Mama and Daddy Johnson, my beloved sister Jackie, my brother Albert, dear cousin Marchie, aunt Laura and uncle John.
Blanche leaves a loving family to cherish her memory: son Christopher,; grandson Christopher Jr.; daughter Candus; brothers: John, Alvin, William, Wadi, Claude and Kevin; sisters: Sonia, Ann (Emilio), Vickie (Lonnie) and Lisa; nephews: Brian, Mark, Richard (Katy), Vincent “Pablo” and Jashawn; nieces: Vicki, Jamie, Carmen (Mike), Jasmine, Shaila and Shakia; and a loving host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special life partner Kelvin Miller.
